# Interactive Sync

Review a sync plan, resolve conflicts, and apply only selected changes.

Interactive Sync lets you review a sync pair before CrossWatch applies changes to your providers.

CrossWatch reads the configured providers and builds a sync plan. You can review additions, updates, removals, conflicts, and items needing attention. Only selected changes are applied.

{% hint style="info" %}
Nothing is written while you review the plan. Provider changes start after you select **Apply selected** and CrossWatch completes final checks.
{% endhint %}

### Start an Interactive Sync

1. Open **Settings** and go to **Synchronization**.
2. Find the sync pair you want to run.
3. Select **Run**.
4. CrossWatch prepares the review: **Connect**, **Read providers**, **Build plan**, then **Prepare review**.
5. Review the proposed changes when the plan is ready.

The review shows the source and target providers. It also shows whether the pair is **One-way** or **Two-way**.

### Review the sync plan

The review shows four counters:

| Counter                 | Meaning                                                                |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Proposed changes** | Total additions, updates, and removals found by CrossWatch. |
| **Selected** | Changes currently selected for application. |
| **Conflicts to review** | Values that need a provider choice. |
| **Need attention** | Items CrossWatch could not resolve automatically, or that are blocked. |

Each proposed change shows its item, feature, action, and review status.

Possible results are:

* **Add** — adds the item to the destination.
* **Update** — changes an existing value.
* **Remove** — removes the item from the destination.
* **Needs attention** — CrossWatch could not safely resolve the item.
* **Blocked** — CrossWatch cannot currently apply the proposed change.
* **Conflict** — both providers have a value and CrossWatch needs your decision.

CrossWatch selects actionable changes where possible. Items needing attention are not selected automatically.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Review removals carefully, especially after changing pair settings, provider accounts, or mappings.
{% endhint %}

### Find and select changes

Use the review controls to narrow a larger plan. You can:

* Search by title or ID.
* Filter by feature or result.
* Use **Select filtered** or **Deselect filtered**.
* Select or clear individual changes.

Only selected proposals are applied in this run. Deselecting a proposal excludes it only from the current apply operation.

### Resolve conflicts

A conflict appears when both sides have different values and CrossWatch cannot choose automatically.

For each conflict, choose the provider value CrossWatch should use. For example, select **Use Trakt** or **Use SIMKL**, depending on the pair.

CrossWatch updates the review after you decide.

Conflict choices apply to the values you reviewed. If provider data changes before application, CrossWatch does not reuse an outdated choice. It checks the plan again before writing provider changes.

### Correct a mapping

If CrossWatch matched the wrong title, season, episode, or provider ID, correct the mapping from Interactive Sync.

Select **Mapping** for an eligible addition or update. Use **Edit selected** to work through multiple selected items.

In the mapping editor, you can:

* Search for the correct title when a catalog is configured.
* Use automatic matching where available.
* Correct titles, season and episode numbers, or episode numbering.
* Enter provider IDs under **Advanced Manual IDs**.

Mappings can use either scope:

| Scope                                      | Behavior                                                            |
| ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **This sync pair** | Applies the correction only to the current pair. |
| **All pairs using this provider instance** | Shares the correction with every pair using that provider instance. |

A pair-specific mapping takes precedence over a shared correction for that pair.

Saved mappings persist and can be reused by future syncs. Saving a mapping does not start a sync. CrossWatch recalculates the current review so you can inspect the corrected result.

{% hint style="info" %}
Mapping is available for eligible additions and updates. You cannot edit removed items or playlists in the Interactive Sync mapping editor.
{% endhint %}

### Refresh the plan

Use **Refresh plan** when provider data or sync settings change while the review is open.

CrossWatch reads the providers again and rebuilds the plan. Existing selections remain where they match the same proposed changes.

Refreshing the plan does not write changes to your providers.

### Apply selected changes

When the review is correct:

1. Check the selected-change count.
2. Resolve any conflicts you want included.
3. Review items marked **Needs attention** or **Blocked**.
4. Select **Apply selected (N)**.

CrossWatch checks the providers again. It also validates that the reviewed plan remains current.

If settings, mappings, or provider data changed, CrossWatch stops the operation and returns you to an updated review. It does not apply anything from the outdated plan.

If checks succeed, CrossWatch applies only selected proposals.

{% hint style="warning" %}
After the apply phase starts, successfully written changes are not rolled back if the operation is cancelled or interrupted.
{% endhint %}

### Review the result

After applying changes, Interactive Sync shows a run report.

The report includes counts for:

* Added, updated, and removed.
* Skipped, unresolved, and blocked.
* Errors.

You can also review results by feature and destination, provider notices, and items still needing attention. Provider activity is available in [Events](/crosswatch/main-dashboard/tools/events.md).

Use **Download JSON** to retain the detailed result outside the current review session.

### No changes proposed

If CrossWatch finds no media changes, there is nothing to select or apply.

For a normal sync, CrossWatch can still complete required bookkeeping and save the current baseline. It does not add, update, or remove provider media.

### Resume or close a review

You do not need to finish a review immediately.

Reopen pending reviews from **Synchronization** or **Notifications**. Status shows whether CrossWatch is preparing, awaiting review, applying, finished, or needs attention.

Open reviews remain available for one hour of inactivity. They also close when you close them or CrossWatch restarts.

Select **Close review** when you no longer need the session. Closing a review does not apply remaining proposals.

### Interactive Sync and Selective Sync

Interactive Sync and Selective Sync serve different workflows.

|                        | Interactive Sync                                | Selective Sync                           |
| ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| **Starting point** | A configured sync pair. | Selected items in the Editor. |
| **Purpose** | Review a complete sync plan before applying it. | Send specific items to another provider. |
| **Changes reviewed** | Additions, updates, and removals. | Items you explicitly selected. |
| **Conflict review** | Yes. | Not the primary workflow. |
| **Mapping correction** | Available for eligible review changes. | Managed through the Editor workflow. |

Use Interactive Sync to inspect a configured pair before it writes changes. Use [Editor](/crosswatch/main-dashboard/navigation/editor.md) when you know which Editor items to send.

### Common issues

#### An item shows Needs attention

CrossWatch could not safely resolve the proposal. Check the title and provider IDs. For eligible additions and updates, use **Mapping** to correct the match and recalculate the review.

#### An item is Blocked

Check the notice in the review. A provider might be unavailable. Required data might be missing. An existing sync protection might prevent the operation.

Interactive Sync does not bypass configured sync protections.

#### Apply returned me to the review

CrossWatch detected that the reviewed plan was no longer current. Provider data, pair settings, or mappings may have changed between review and application.

Review the updated plan, then apply it when correct.

#### Mapping is not available

You cannot open Mapping for removals or playlists. It is available for eligible additions and updates.

#### My review disappeared

Interactive Sync sessions are temporary. Open reviews remain available for one hour of inactivity. CrossWatch also clears them when it restarts.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://wiki.crosswatch.app/crosswatch/main-dashboard/interactive-sync.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
